On the 22nd of July, Ryedale’s auctioneers will sell a rare set of ten Victorian leather-bound designer pattern books. This superb textile archive was made for Sutton Mills Macclesfield, bought by J & F Jackson Silk Manufactures.
In lot 43, each book has a range of samples in vivid colours, along with hand drawn pencil design sketches, dating from 1885. The books display all types of weaving techniques and design processes of the time.
This is a great piece of history, extensively covering weavers and patterns and design numbers, featuring samples for silk scarves, mufflers, and patterns for the 1897 Victorian Diamond Jubilee. They also feature animal patterns, Paisley, Prince of Wales, New 1924 muffler range, and Turkish tents, to name a few!
This lot will go up for auction along with Mouseman furniture, Yorkshire oak furniture and other antiques on 22nd July at 11:00am, in Cooks Yard, Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire. The viewing is Friday 21st July 10:00 – 7:00 and Saturday 22nd July 9:00 – 11:00.
